Sewing: It is about risks right?

First attempt at Pull Strings on a Maxi skirt!!

Whether you are a beginner or an expert the risks involved in sewing any garment is evident. We cannot run from it. When you decide to look at a piece of fabric in it’s plain state and envision a finished garment that is a risk in itself. Won’t you agree?

I say risks because there is no guarantee of its perfection or completeness. Just your vision, your skill and your commitment to see it finished.

We must have heard the different stories of great Artists and Inventors that started projects and made things they never thought would have turned into anything or that were never started as masterpieces but turned out to be. You just don’t know.

Your craft is a gift, and everyday you go to that machine or hand sew a garment you are growing and adding experience to your craft. Taking the risk along signifies something to the believer; it was worth trying.

First top I ever made using a pattern bodice as a base!

So whatever stage you are at in your sewing journey, enjoy it. Bask in it, continue taking risks and challenge yourself. The very potential of your skill is realized in taking risks. How would you ever know that you could make that coat, dress, pant, hat or handbag. You must try.

A little food for thought as you are creative this week…whatever project you are holding off or delaying.. come on now.. don’t take the fun out of learning.. do it!!!

The sewing chronicles continues…
