Reflections: Backing up in order to move forward!

Happy New year everyone! Welcome to 2018!

It’s indeed an honour and privilege to be able to share my adventures with you. ( As much as I can) ๐Ÿ™‚ I apologize for the mini gap between Sept to December. It was crazy. Have no fear the photos are here! ๐Ÿ™‚

Before I start spewing out awesome content in 2018, let me just back up and fill you in on all the good makes and takes of 2018. As always I didn’t think I did that much and then the pictures reveal otherwise! ๐Ÿ™‚ The pictures shall set you free..lol

Reflection is good. I am actually inspired to take action and grow when I reflect. Yes.. It can be overwhelming but I am an optimist and a believer. There is this quote I love and I would like to encourage you with as you reflect on the past and enter the future:

โ€œInsight alone is not enough.

There must be action after reflectionโ€

( Reupert, 2009)

Isn’t that beautiful? Does that quote make you want to move forward? I hope it does, because sooner or later we will realize that the past is the past and the missed opportunities of yesterday are now the realities of the new day that has the potential to bring even more opportunities! ๐Ÿ™‚ So act after you reflect!

Okay! Thats my fill of philosophy for you today. On with the show and the photos.

The reality of 2017 was amazing in hindsight. I really didn’t know how much I could get done with my full time graduate program(Grad school is serious yhall..lol) and internships (10 months…oh my…) but by God’s grace I managed to take some risks and am really pleased with not just the pieces I made but the growth in my craft this year. Some of those challenges were taking on some commercial patterns! Yikes.. if you know me and my sewing long enough you will know that I mostly like to create my own patterns from favourite pieces and add my twists to them. Taking on commercial patterns on a few looks were challenging and rewarding too. We can get into that more in 2018 as I share my likes and dislikes of the commercial patterns. Nevertheless, the sewing machine was on a roll in 2017! ๐Ÿ™‚ I actually added a new machine to the sewing family( My MIL’s old machine from the 70s). It sews like a dream and it really helped me when my old faithful had moments in the year.

Alrighty! On to the photos! There were maxi dresses, pants, tops, two pieces, off the shoulders, shift dresses, wrap skirts, maxi skirts, hoodies, tulle skirts, jumpers, wrap tops.. even little peoples clothes ( I enjoyed those two dresses ๐Ÿ™‚ ). It was a sewing marathon and included in that were two amazing Fashion showcases! ๐Ÿ™‚

There’s more ๐Ÿ™‚ . These are the awesome shots from my fashion showcase that took place on November 24th! ๐Ÿ™‚ My Holiday looks of the BB17″ Fall collection! I really enjoyed working with these amazing models and making those pieces. There was a total of 17 pieces= 9 looks! ๐Ÿ™‚

Well, I think I captured those awesome makes of 2017. At least most of them…lol You can see the risks I took right away as well as the step up in my designs! ๐Ÿ™‚

Stay tuned for 2018 content. Keeping you engaged in my sewing journey but also bringing you practical tips and tricks as you navigate your wardrobe in 2018!

Thank you all so much. It’s an honour to have you on this journey.

Just keep sewing, just keep sewing..what do I do I sew, sew, sewwwwwwwww!!!!

God bless

Reflections: Showcase Review & Pictures :) :) :)

Hi Guys!

Happy New week!!!!

RAWToronto_VERSE-Ian 6548

Its a great day for a showcase throwback don’t you think. Its been just over a month that AmshinaApparel my handmade custom clothing business had the opportunity to showcase on the RAW- Natural Born Artist platform. If you have never heard of them before please feel free to check them out. It’s an amazing group that gives artist like myself a platform to showcase and share my talent with the community and progress in my branding. The event was well curated and organised by the local staff and was really well done. ย This was my first collection adventure. As you can imagine even though I had a few months to plan it was still quite challenging trying to curate pieces and sew them at the same time, not to mention the model search and fittings that followed this process. Nevertheless, I must say I had some amazing volunteers and friends that came alongside me to offer guidance, support and tangible contributions to making this opportunity a reality. I was and continue to be very grateful to each and every individual from my family and friends near and far.

A special special shout out to my Husband, his cousins and friend that took the time out to record and mix the song. Your support was priceless. Thank you!!! ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

The pieces

Originally I had planned twelve (12) pieces, but a few weeks before showcase one of my models cancelled due to some unforeseen circumstances so I had to make some adjustments. This was okay since I was being overly ambitious in a good way. ๐Ÿ™‚ Still love her. She will be in show no. 2 ๐Ÿ™‚ hahahhah got that ma….lol.

Okay , so on to the eleven (11) pieces that graced the runway in the below order. I also strategically created three sections for my overall presentation. Check out the group shots below too:

Inspiration

Inspiration came from many pieces and places, but I was also inspired by the styles of my models too. Showcasing my pieces were key but also having my models feel comfortable in their looks was paramount. ๐Ÿ™‚

The goal was to showcase my love for print but also the Fit, Function, Fashion and Fun that my pieces offers its wearers. Versatility and style in one look :). My pieces are also geared at different shapes and sizes as you can see in my use of models!:) ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you guys for being patient with my mini review here. You may have seen some on my instagram but its way overdue for a post here. This one definitely is a milestone and learning moment in my sewing journey and I look forward to the next stage! ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks for your continued support. Stay tuned! The sewing chronicles is definitely continuing. Hope you are all having a great summer! ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

Just keep sewing, just keep sewing, what do I do I sew, sew sewwwwwww!! ๐Ÿ™‚

Thinking Spring thoughts… and Sewing..!

Hi Everyone!

Belated Easter greetings. I Trust you all had an amazing time with your family or however you chose to spend it. ๐Ÿ™‚

It’s been a world wind of activities as usual. ๐Ÿ™‚ A little sewing there, a little sewing here, a little reading here, a lot of grad school assignments there, a little of family here and life all together there.. lol.. You guys get the wave of events. ๐Ÿ™‚

It’s a new season though!ย Thisย causes me to reflect on the way forward and where I am at. Spring brings that happy andย joyful feelingย  about sunshine and flowers but also possibilities. Like the budding of the trees and roses,ย I am feeling the possibilities. Grad school has been crazy these past months. Assignments after assignments. I sewed in between.. but not as much or how I wanted to. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

I finally got a chance to do some creativeย sewing! Yayyy!!!! I was sewing in between… so it wasn’t complete withdrawal.hahaha. You know me, I make it happen! I am more referring to the creative moments where I can be present mentallyย and enjoy the process of sewing and creating a beautiful piece. So over Easterย I did three pieces on Good Friday! I had my own self drafted patterns already and just had a creative moment.
I thoroughly enjoyed the process but also the finished looks.

The chronicles continue… just keep sewing, just keep sewing, what do I do I sew, sew, sewwwwwwwww!!!

Sunny with a Chance of Summer!

Hello there July!!!!!!

Summer=Good weather for a Maxi Dress!!! ย ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

I had the draft for this dress sketched out in my notebook since last year I think, or maybe 2014.ย This was suppose to be *The MAXI*, my gorgeous, flowy, armed with pockets kind of functional summer statement piece.

I never got around to making it last year. But that’s okay cause I did it finally this year!! Found this lightweight floral polyester material to use as a tester. And I am in love with it. This was my trial prototype you could say. It came out amazing to the point that someone saw it and said they wanted to buy it as is! ๐Ÿ™‚ SOLD…..I know that’s crazy right. Sad part I know the fabric sold out. Hmmmmm….. I will go hunting next time I am at the fabric store in event someone left a piece behind. You never know..

image

Theย whole process in my head transpired well in the cut out stage. Very nerve racking since I was winging it basically but with some key measurements involve to ensure fit, things came together. It’s suppose to be flowy but to proportion of the size. So This size can fit a medium and a large. It may fit a small but a belt may be required to avoid a mooo-moo -licious look ๐Ÿ™‚

I am ready for round two and making the second one. Thereafter I will try to get this baby into a sloper and ready for duplication! Ensuring of course I get the measurements down pat and the shape too. It has an unusual shape which makes it flow a certain way. Hard to explain, I just let the scissors do its thing. ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ Cut cut…

Goal reached, happy camper!

Excited to make one for my own wardrobe. I have a great Rayon print lined up for mine. ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks for stopping by, stay tuned in July I have a few custom pieces in the works that i will share with you.

Just keep sewing, just keep sewing, what do I do I sew, sew, sew, sewwwwwwwwwwww

Another year over, A new one just begun!

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!!

What can I say. It was an amazing year. The year in review from my blog perspective I am very proud of my accomplishments big and small. Being able to post at least once a month as well as achieving some sewing milestones and starting my business!

That’s a lot I would say. Things went fast but things happened. ๐Ÿ™‚

Some of those noteable accomplishments and milestones:
1. Attended two tabling events where I showcased and sold custom made items

2. Opened my Etsy shop AmshinaApparel

3. Made some new custom pieces never made before

4. Created business cards

5. Manage to keep my blog going ( I know I was MIA at times….)

6. Took a few online sewing classes to perfect and learn new sewing skills

7. Over 50+ pieces sold in 2015

8. Did my own photo shoot using a professional camera

9. Opened a facebook page and instagram account for AmshinaApparel

There are many other things I was definitely proud of in 2015 and a few not so proud of with regards to pushing my sewing and business. Feels weird saying “business” but I am excited about the possibilities in 2016 to see my business grow and the foundations strengthen. I am happy that I tried it all and I can tell you I definitely learned from those sewing mistakes and achievements. I feel confident in my skills and what I have to offer.

I won’t bore you ย anymore with too much words…… here are a few random pics from my 2015 adventures in sewing in no particular order.

Honeymoon fabulousness!!

I said yes!!!!!!!! and had a beautiful summer wedding down in Guyana this August! ๐Ÿ™‚ ย (No I didnt make my wedding dress.. ๐Ÿ™‚ ) That would have been overly ambitious of me… But I am sure if I had given much thought to it I could have pulled it off.. ๐Ÿ™‚

That would explain my inconsistency in blogging. My apologies.. A good sewing hiatus excuse. However You better believe it I was sewing right up to the day before I left. I had three projects to complete for a friend and I figured I could make a quick little something for myself. Here it is my fabulous maxi skirt that I wore my last day on Honeymoon!!

I was originally going to make a dress but with the short time I had, I could only muster up a skirt so here goes. It can be converted to a maxi dress which I wore to the pool after that same day. Making it a two outfit day.

If there was ever a piece I felt fabulous in this is definitely one of those! I was feeling myself can you tell. It was a flowy coolness for the Caribbean weather ย that day coupled with my hat, bag and tank accessorized it well. ย Here are a few shots throughout the day of me and the skirt.

Off to the city….
