Reflections: Showcase Review & Pictures :) :) :)

Hi Guys!

Happy New week!!!!

RAWToronto_VERSE-Ian 6548

Its a great day for a showcase throwback don’t you think. Its been just over a month that AmshinaApparel my handmade custom clothing business had the opportunity to showcase on the RAW- Natural Born Artist platform. If you have never heard of them before please feel free to check them out. It’s an amazing group that gives artist like myself a platform to showcase and share my talent with the community and progress in my branding. The event was well curated and organised by the local staff and was really well done.  This was my first collection adventure. As you can imagine even though I had a few months to plan it was still quite challenging trying to curate pieces and sew them at the same time, not to mention the model search and fittings that followed this process. Nevertheless, I must say I had some amazing volunteers and friends that came alongside me to offer guidance, support and tangible contributions to making this opportunity a reality. I was and continue to be very grateful to each and every individual from my family and friends near and far.

A special special shout out to my Husband, his cousins and friend that took the time out to record and mix the song. Your support was priceless. Thank you!!! 🙂 🙂

The pieces

Originally I had planned twelve (12) pieces, but a few weeks before showcase one of my models cancelled due to some unforeseen circumstances so I had to make some adjustments. This was okay since I was being overly ambitious in a good way. 🙂 Still love her. She will be in show no. 2 🙂 hahahhah got that ma….lol.

Okay , so on to the eleven (11) pieces that graced the runway in the below order. I also strategically created three sections for my overall presentation. Check out the group shots below too:

Individual looks:

  1. A shift infinity sleeve dress with two pockets- The sleeves allows this dress to be worn multiple ways including as a Midi skirt 🙂RAWToronto_VERSE-Ian 5426

Inspiration

Inspiration came from many pieces and places, but I was also inspired by the styles of my models too. Showcasing my pieces were key but also having my models feel comfortable in their looks was paramount. 🙂

The goal was to showcase my love for print but also the Fit, Function, Fashion and Fun that my pieces offers its wearers. Versatility and style in one look :). My pieces are also geared at different shapes and sizes as you can see in my use of models!:) 🙂 🙂

Thank you guys for being patient with my mini review here. You may have seen some on my instagram but its way overdue for a post here. This one definitely is a milestone and learning moment in my sewing journey and I look forward to the next stage! 🙂

Thanks for your continued support. Stay tuned! The sewing chronicles is definitely continuing. Hope you are all having a great summer! 🙂 🙂

Just keep sewing, just keep sewing, what do I do I sew, sew sewwwwwww!! 🙂

2 years in business and the countdown to my showcase: Where am I?

wp-image--221523254

My Shop is 2 years!!!

It’s four weeks to the showcase everyone!!! AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH !!!!!
Before I start screaming at the amount of work left to do, can we say belated happy birthday to my etsy shop that celebrated its 2nd year on May 20th.

A big thank you to everyone for making the past two years possible. For coming alongside me as a follower, avid supporter, subscriber, customer, family and friend! I can no longer be selfish with my sewing, I can no longer hide it, it’s out there and I am happy to be able to serve so many with my gifts.

Here’s to the next year! 🙂 I am not going anywhere!

Getting ready for the show: T-4 weeks to showtime

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!

UPdated Flyer

It’s not too bad. But I still have lots to do in terms of making my pieces.

So one month from today it’s Showtime guys…… June 23rd.. Have you picked up your tickets? I still need to ensure my participation with more ticket purchases. So If you haven’t its not too late. Here is the direct ticket link below:

https://www.rawartists.org/tickets/purchase/2185/316191

In terms of the sewing, I have basically completed a quarter of the pieces in my collection. I know, I know…… I initially divided them up in to colour coded sections as strategy for completion. This will help me to see all the pieces together when finished and to coordinate fittings with my models, whose time I cherish and appreciate so much! 🙂 🙂

So I have been busy, busy ,busy, busy, busy… the creative process has been amazing. I was able to transform my simple silhouettes into runway material ( At least I hope they are :)). Nevertheless, I am enjoying it and can’t wait to share. I am definitely pushing the envelope in terms of items I have ever produced. This entire showcase is a first for me and I am just happy to be creative and have a space to share that with many.

I am grateful for the opportunity. For now I need to get back to work. I am hoping by Month end I am finished with most and So that my model fittings can begin first thing in June.

For now I have:

  1. My music
  2. Make up artist
  3. Models
  4. 2.5 complete pieces..lol I know, I know… many more to come
  5. Patterns have been drafted for some pieces 🙂

I will check in with you all again shortly. Stay tuned. I trust you are enjoying your spring and anticipating summer as much as I am.

The sewing chronicles continue.

Just keep sewing, just keep sewing, what do I do I sew, sew, sewwwwwwwwwwwwww!

Bless,

It’s May: Let’s talk shop!

Hello May!

May is a memorable month for me for many things, one of those is that two (2) years ago on May 20th 2015 I decided to open my etsy shop. Aaaahhhhhhhhhhh!!!! http://www.etsy.com/shop/amshinaapparel

With the encouragement of my friends and family I took a leap of faith and started my own handmade sewing business. While it didn’t officially became a business until January 2016, the quest started that May 20th, 2015.

Let’s be real, business was never a part of my plans and I am very much working out those lovely details that make entrepreneurship a journey. 🙂

I am learning daily as an entrepreneur. I am super blessed and grateful to be artistic but also administrative, phew!!….working on the business management part, is not that easy when you are the manager for everything and the manufacturer! 🙂 Every now and then I question things and get hard on myself for the things I don’t know. I guess that’s natural.

Thank God for books, blogs and videos. I greatly appreciate those that have gone before me and those that have been doing this for years that generously share their work. Learning has been a blessing. I try to engage in learning something new about my sewing and running a business every month. Whether it’s to get a new book, find a new blog to read or try a new technique.

The first year was trial and error, a combination of many ‘why questions’ and me being really scared as I entered this unchartered territory. If there was ever a moment in my life that I felt I was an imposter, this sure was that moment.” Oh my, why am I sewing for others? Can I really do this”, “I didn’t study fashion?, ” I am a project manager? These were some of my road block questions. I still wrestle with them at times but I don’t camp with those thoughts too long for it to hinder my next step. I realize early on that answering these very questions would determine everything.  They would determine my “keep going factor”.

The keep going factor

There is a friend of mine who doesn’t know how big an encouragement her words are to me. She always says, “I don’t know how you do it but you keep going it”. The “keep going factor” is my mantra indeed.  I know I am not a quitter so even when I make mistakes I believe if I keep doing it long enough I will get it right. Think about it this way, it’s only when we reach a road block that we question how far we have come and contemplate turning back. For me, because I have come this far, I have no choice but to press on in hopes that the road blocks will be moved.  You see, it’s naive to think this was going to be easy; the best of the best are tested right? So who am I? Well that just means I will be tested too. The high and low points will happen in my business. Even though at times the low points seem many and the high few and far, I am happy with where I am at. I figure once I stay in the race long enough, continue to be faithful, continue to serve my clients, continue to be true to my gifts, the chances are I will finish it!

So I am staying the course everyone! 🙂 🙂 🙂 Staying in my own lane and carving out my handmade business experience the way it leads.

Thank you all for literally coming alongside me with your continued encouragement and support in different ways. The thing about races is that you need supporters, even when you are intrinsically motivated. None of this would be possible without YOU!

Stay tune this month as I highlight those key learnings in my entrepreneurial venture with my sewing.

Bless

Instead I have an amazing opportunity to showcase my summer pieces two months from to day in a arts and entertainment showcase highlighting local and underground talent in Toronto. Save that date if you are in Toronto: June 23rd, 7pm. Details below in the link.

Excited, nervous and driven. Possibilities, possibilities and more possibilities. But also fun and more fun. I have been planning since January end after my application was accepted. So now I am in sew mode and making those pieces and working with my amazing friends who are volunteering there time to be models on this special occasion.

My friends and family have been very supportive and have come along side me so far in many ways as I prepare for this event. Whether they are the show music director, volunteer models, back stage help, selling at my booth, fabric store runs, brainstorming ideas or just offering encouragement and support. They have been amazing, near and far!

As part of my participation in this event I am required to sell tickets via a guest list that will be created under my name as an artist. Tickets are $20. and can only be purchased online!

Here is the link if you are interested in supporting me in this event: Please ensure before you purchase that under selected artist is Amshinaapparel!

Thinking Spring thoughts… and Sewing..!

Hi Everyone!

Belated Easter greetings. I Trust you all had an amazing time with your family or however you chose to spend it. 🙂

It’s been a world wind of activities as usual. 🙂 A little sewing there, a little sewing here, a little reading here, a lot of grad school assignments there, a little of family here and life all together there.. lol.. You guys get the wave of events. 🙂

It’s a new season though! This causes me to reflect on the way forward and where I am at. Spring brings that happy and joyful feeling  about sunshine and flowers but also possibilities. Like the budding of the trees and roses, I am feeling the possibilities. Grad school has been crazy these past months. Assignments after assignments. I sewed in between.. but not as much or how I wanted to. 😦

I finally got a chance to do some creative sewing! Yayyy!!!! I was sewing in between… so it wasn’t complete withdrawal.hahaha. You know me, I make it happen! I am more referring to the creative moments where I can be present mentally and enjoy the process of sewing and creating a beautiful piece. So over Easter I did three pieces on Good Friday! I had my own self drafted patterns already and just had a creative moment.
I thoroughly enjoyed the process but also the finished looks.

The chronicles continue… just keep sewing, just keep sewing, what do I do I sew, sew, sewwwwwwwww!!!

Getting Organized and my first make!

I think the ambitious sewing at the end of 2016 had me a bit stunned at the start of 2017😊. I mean, even my sewing machine sounds different! It was a homestretch strong finish I must say.

Starting off 2017 after taking some time to reflect and look ahead I am now getting into the swing of things.

-So far I have completed one alteration and a high neck top.

-I was also able to complete my sewing room organization a few weekends ago! I feel great about this in particular! For the most part everything has a home. This will help my flow for the months ahead! Here is a sneak!

After successfully completing the above I felt it was time to make my first memade for myself. I don’t know if you guys realise the trend but my personal pieces are spur of the moment. Literally I was talking to my mom on facetime and the next thing I was sewing this shift dress. I tweaked a current self drafted pattern to create the look.

I did make this with the purpose of wearing it the next day, so I was in it! Yayyyyyy😍😍😍

The sewing bug is back!  I have a few items ready to go for this week! Woot woot!!

Just keep sewing, just keep sewing, what do I do I sew sew sew sewwwwwwww!
