Happy July!

Inspiration is everywhere. Creative and life changing experiences, places, people, things and such are beckoning us daily in our lives to DO and BE better human beings. Won’t you agree? I know this is sometimes hard to believe in the face of life’s most challenging experiences. I can definitely relate but let us not deny inspiration even when we don’t feel like it.

My nephew took this candid blurry shot of me last weekend….it’s giving me life! ๐Ÿ™‚

I continue to be grateful for those individuals that come into my life weekly. Unknown to them at times are great sources of inspiration for my creative outlet and life.

Inspiration can be found in the strangest places and in the not so strange places. Inspiration can also be timely, won’t you agree. How many success stories have you read of individuals going from 0 to something or just being saved by a crazy idea in time to take them to the next level? There are many….I love those stories.

This was a few years ago on a girls trip. A memorable trip and experience! ๐Ÿ™‚

Recently I was inspired by a new customer and a conversation with a potential customer. The new customer was eager to purchase a piece and shared how immediately they connected to the piece and had to have it. The potential customer was looking for something special that I didn’t have but I was willing to get behind their vision and explored how we can make it possible. The timing wasn’t right so we agreed on a possible future collaboration. At the end of both conversations I had a spring in my step even though both were successful in different ways. One resulted in an immediate sale and the other, a possibility for future collaboration.

These three beauties rocking three pieces from my Amshina Custom Clothing business!

I am reminded that in putting my best foot forward every time that there can be something to reap. What do I mean by reap? Sowing seeds of good customer service should not be optional when you only anticipate a final sale. Every entrepreneur should know this. At the beginning of my entrepreneurial journey it was hard to spend hours putting together a plan for a piece and creating estimates and quotes for sales that fell through ( I still do ๐Ÿ™‚ ). It took many no’s and a few yes’s to caution me not to be discouraged in these moments. Instead, I started looking for inspiration and ideas for products as well as how I can serve my clientele better in these conversations and inquiries. I am still pruning the tree of entrepreneurial excellence but with intention and purpose now.

Just me..thinking out loud! ๐Ÿ™‚ย

It’s also a beautiful reminder that inspiration can be found anywhere and in the strangest of places.

Let me put that inspiration into plans and get creative now shall we! ๐Ÿ™‚

What’s the most strangest place, thing or experience that’s ever inspired you to date? Do Share.

Stay tuned! The creative chronicles continue! ๐Ÿ™‚

God Bless!

It’s been 3 months: I am back!!

It’s been a minute everyone!

As always, I want to thank you for sticking around these past empty months here on my blog :). I know some of you follow me over on instagram so you would have seen some updates on there during this time. Thank you, thank you! For those close to me you are definitely aware of me completing graduate school these past few months. Yahoooo!!! ๐Ÿ™‚ It is finished!

I can’t begin to tell you the story and journey of the past few months of grad school. It would take way too long a post. Things were crazy I tell you. Lots of reading, writing, researching, review, edits, edits, more edits and so on. However, on May 17th I successfully defended my Masters Thesis in Social Work and pass with flying colours!!!! Woot Woot!! God knows, it was something else.

At my thesis defence ๐Ÿ™‚ May 17th 2018

It was no joke. It was by far one of the most difficult moments and times in my education journey to date. No graduation pictures to show you yet of my actual convocation, that will be in the Fall this year :).

I won’t bore you with the details of my journey and turn this into the most lengthy post you have read but I am so thankful to be finished. I am sure in between posts over the next few months I will share some of those stories. Encouragement came from near and far and I am so grateful. The past two years have not been easy but by God’s amazing grace I made it and I am still processing everything.

Sewing and my business

During this time I did do some sewing for my business and myself for sure. It didn’t take me long to realize I had to take a break as my research was calling for me to focus and really get into it during these final months. The sewing in between was handy. It was like my own therapy! SEWTHERAPY!! ๐Ÿ™‚ I made some awesome pieces. I will share them with you over the next few months. Picking up where I left off as I get prepared for a few summer markets and business promotion of my products. Wish me well! ๐Ÿ™‚

A dress I made ๐Ÿ™‚

What’s next?

That’s the question on everyone’s lips I meet. To be honest I am still processing everything and deciding which direction I want to head in. No rush! In the meantime I just returned from a mini vacay with hubby from Cancun, Mexico. It was a great gift and break and I was so grateful to my family members that made it possible! THANK YOU!!!! We appreciate and love you!!

Vacation in Mexico…..A day tour to Tulum! The top I am wearing is an Amshina piece!

Anywho! It’s great to be back in blog land. Every time I am away I feel like I am starting over again. I am sure anyone can be discouraged by that, yet here I am turning a new leaf. I am down for the task and will definitely keep at it.

I trust you all will stay with me on this creative journey. I hope to dedicate more time to refining and fine tuning my creative business and sewing skills over the next year with new inspiration and goals. Research has definitely influenced me these past two years and I am excited to take my blogging to the next level.

So stay tuned as always!

Reflections: Backing up in order to move forward!

Happy New year everyone! Welcome to 2018!

It’s indeed an honour and privilege to be able to share my adventures with you. ( As much as I can) ๐Ÿ™‚ I apologize for the mini gap between Sept to December. It was crazy. Have no fear the photos are here! ๐Ÿ™‚

Before I start spewing out awesome content in 2018, let me just back up and fill you in on all the good makes and takes of 2018. As always I didn’t think I did that much and then the pictures reveal otherwise! ๐Ÿ™‚ The pictures shall set you free..lol

Reflection is good. I am actually inspired to take action and grow when I reflect. Yes.. It can be overwhelming but I am an optimist and a believer. There is this quote I love and I would like to encourage you with as you reflect on the past and enter the future:

โ€œInsight alone is not enough.

There must be action after reflectionโ€

( Reupert, 2009)

Isn’t that beautiful? Does that quote make you want to move forward? I hope it does, because sooner or later we will realize that the past is the past and the missed opportunities of yesterday are now the realities of the new day that has the potential to bring even more opportunities! ๐Ÿ™‚ So act after you reflect!

Okay! Thats my fill of philosophy for you today. On with the show and the photos.

The reality of 2017 was amazing in hindsight. I really didn’t know how much I could get done with my full time graduate program(Grad school is serious yhall..lol) and internships (10 months…oh my…) but by God’s grace I managed to take some risks and am really pleased with not just the pieces I made but the growth in my craft this year. Some of those challenges were taking on some commercial patterns! Yikes.. if you know me and my sewing long enough you will know that I mostly like to create my own patterns from favourite pieces and add my twists to them. Taking on commercial patterns on a few looks were challenging and rewarding too. We can get into that more in 2018 as I share my likes and dislikes of the commercial patterns. Nevertheless, the sewing machine was on a roll in 2017! ๐Ÿ™‚ I actually added a new machine to the sewing family( My MIL’s old machine from the 70s). It sews like a dream and it really helped me when my old faithful had moments in the year.

Alrighty! On to the photos! There were maxi dresses, pants, tops, two pieces, off the shoulders, shift dresses, wrap skirts, maxi skirts, hoodies, tulle skirts, jumpers, wrap tops.. even little peoples clothes ( I enjoyed those two dresses ๐Ÿ™‚ ). It was a sewing marathon and included in that were two amazing Fashion showcases! ๐Ÿ™‚

There’s more ๐Ÿ™‚ . These are the awesome shots from my fashion showcase that took place on November 24th! ๐Ÿ™‚ My Holiday looks of the BB17″ Fall collection! I really enjoyed working with these amazing models and making those pieces. There was a total of 17 pieces= 9 looks! ๐Ÿ™‚

Well, I think I captured those awesome makes of 2017. At least most of them…lol You can see the risks I took right away as well as the step up in my designs! ๐Ÿ™‚

Stay tuned for 2018 content. Keeping you engaged in my sewing journey but also bringing you practical tips and tricks as you navigate your wardrobe in 2018!

Thank you all so much. It’s an honour to have you on this journey.

Just keep sewing, just keep sewing..what do I do I sew, sew, sewwwwwwwww!!!!

God bless

Reflections: Showcase Review & Pictures :) :) :)

Hi Guys!

Happy New week!!!!

RAWToronto_VERSE-Ian 6548

Its a great day for a showcase throwback don’t you think. Its been just over a month that AmshinaApparel my handmade custom clothing business had the opportunity to showcase on the RAW- Natural Born Artist platform. If you have never heard of them before please feel free to check them out. It’s an amazing group that gives artist like myself a platform to showcase and share my talent with the community and progress in my branding. The event was well curated and organised by the local staff and was really well done. ย This was my first collection adventure. As you can imagine even though I had a few months to plan it was still quite challenging trying to curate pieces and sew them at the same time, not to mention the model search and fittings that followed this process. Nevertheless, I must say I had some amazing volunteers and friends that came alongside me to offer guidance, support and tangible contributions to making this opportunity a reality. I was and continue to be very grateful to each and every individual from my family and friends near and far.

A special special shout out to my Husband, his cousins and friend that took the time out to record and mix the song. Your support was priceless. Thank you!!! ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

The pieces

Originally I had planned twelve (12) pieces, but a few weeks before showcase one of my models cancelled due to some unforeseen circumstances so I had to make some adjustments. This was okay since I was being overly ambitious in a good way. ๐Ÿ™‚ Still love her. She will be in show no. 2 ๐Ÿ™‚ hahahhah got that ma….lol.

Okay , so on to the eleven (11) pieces that graced the runway in the below order. I also strategically created three sections for my overall presentation. Check out the group shots below too:

Inspiration

Inspiration came from many pieces and places, but I was also inspired by the styles of my models too. Showcasing my pieces were key but also having my models feel comfortable in their looks was paramount. ๐Ÿ™‚

The goal was to showcase my love for print but also the Fit, Function, Fashion and Fun that my pieces offers its wearers. Versatility and style in one look :). My pieces are also geared at different shapes and sizes as you can see in my use of models!:) ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

Thank you guys for being patient with my mini review here. You may have seen some on my instagram but its way overdue for a post here. This one definitely is a milestone and learning moment in my sewing journey and I look forward to the next stage! ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks for your continued support. Stay tuned! The sewing chronicles is definitely continuing. Hope you are all having a great summer! ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

Just keep sewing, just keep sewing, what do I do I sew, sew sewwwwwww!! ๐Ÿ™‚
