Dress Rehearsals: The style test!

It was that serious……

Yes…. dress rehearsals. Trying on my outfits prior to an event. It didn’t matter how small the event was I made sure I did a run through to test for a few things.

  • Fit- Too tight, too big? Bulky, bunching, too long , too short Etc.
  • Function-do I have pockets? Would dancing be a problem? Can I sit?What if I fall?…hmmmmm… would I be embarrassingly exposed?Can I reach up? Can I bend?
  • Style- Did the look make sense for the event? Would it be typical? Do I stand out? Would I run into someone else wearing the same thing?

I know the list sounds a bit extreme. But guys… it worked for me.. And it became so routine that soon after going through those steps was natural as walking and didn’t seem laborious in any way. It became my style process.

Now when I look back I can say.. I was developing that eye of what works for me.

It served its purpose and I am happy to say that I no longer do that so much in detail. But with a quick glance and more so knowing what’s in my closet I put my outfits together easily. πŸ™‚ You can say the process now takes place in my mind before I even get to the closet!

What’s your get ready process in selecting something to wear? Do you have a mini dress rehearsal? I would love to hear.

Thanks for tuning in to part 2 of my mini Monday style series in May! See you next week!

Just keep sewing, just keep sewing, what do I do I sew sew.

My Crafty Venture!

So a quick update. On May 20th 2015 I decided to go ahead and launch my etsy shop. Is it a business…I guess in a small sense for now! You think…. I basically see it as a way to answer those questions and needs of friends and family that are interested in purchasing some of my pieces and a good way to showcase and grow in my skill. I like a challenge.

So for now lets just say its a “Crafty venture” I like that term. πŸ™‚ Business scares me… hahah

I had a great opportunity to showcase some of my pieces that I was working on over the last bit at a recent Ministry Luncheon I felt confident. I got really good reviews and that pushed me.

My booth!!! πŸ™‚ So proud of me

I definitely had to make sure I wore something I made! That was a big bonus. Loved this maxi dress

My booth! I have scarves, maxi skirts, Pencil skirts, Kimonos, shoe bags and headbands! I also had a giveaway for the lucky shoppers!

The booth! Do you guys like my handmade Pom Poms! Great touch I thought.

Headbands and signage!

Now whether that was premature or not, I wanted to do this now. Who knows right? Remember my previous posts about taking risks. So here goes! I have so many ideas and ways to get this going but I will pace myself. At least I started it!. πŸ™‚

Please feel free to just check it out. Here is the link to my Etsy shop, Facebook page and instagram: I welcome your feedback and reviews. As the time goes by I will be adding other items that can be custom made to order! I have since branched out to three social media engines.

1. http://www.etsy.com/ca/shop/amshinaapparel

2. https://www.facebook.com/amshinaapparel

3. https://www.instagram.com/amshina

I only have a few items so far. Β If any of you sell on Etsy I welcome your tips and feedback as always and of course share your links so I can visit your shop too!

God bless

U-Feature: Infinity Scarf

U-Feature:Β A pictorial presentation of my favorite pieces sewn.

This first feature captures the sweater infinity Scarf. Definitely the only one I have made to date. It was a reconstruction project made using an XXXL mens sweater that produced this beautiful functional piece. Love it, I am yet to find a similar sweater to repeat this number! The search continues…..

Expanding my sewing family.Does she inspire you?

My purchase to myself this Christmas, a Dress Form. Yay! So much to choose from, so expensive too. My local fabric store had a 50% sale off the forms.. .Perfect timing and within my price range.

Thanks to the support from family and friends who ordered scarves from me over the past two months. Your support not only gave me added sewing confidence but also inspired me to take my sewing to the next level with regards to garment construction.

After setting up the form from the box, it was like instant ideas started to flow. Not only do I have my own model but there are so many things to try and to experiment with now. While I was limited in my thinking of trying clothes on the form for fit only, I am seeing the endless possibilities my new found sewing addition could have. Her name is “Sistah”

What about you? Do you have a form? Would you get one and why?

I would love to hear from the experts too on your experience owning one of these and how it has helped your sewing and or creativity.

Until next time, just keep sewing, just keep sewing, what do we do we seeeeeewwwwwwwwwww!

It’s the final countdown….Preview!

So we are in the week of Christmas and I continue to be ambitious about my homemade presents and orders for scarves and other items from family and friends… Β it’s been a whirlwind.. sewing in the morning, sewing in the evening… wish I could sew at lunch too.. ( Just kidding), sewing at dinner time and on wards! Fun fun fun… and risks too. while I do have a few items I may not be able to finish by Wednesday, I have finished just about 95% of the projects. All orders have been filled.. Phew

Let the pictures speak for themselves on the pieces I have made and continue to work on before Wednesday!! πŸ™‚ That’s the goal.. All done hopefully by Tuesday night! Just wanted to let my followers know I am still sewing πŸ™‚
