Sunny with a Chance of Summer!

Hello there July!!!!!!

Summer=Good weather for a Maxi Dress!!! ย ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

I had the draft for this dress sketched out in my notebook since last year I think, or maybe 2014.ย This was suppose to be *The MAXI*, my gorgeous, flowy, armed with pockets kind of functional summer statement piece.

I never got around to making it last year. But that’s okay cause I did it finally this year!! Found this lightweight floral polyester material to use as a tester. And I am in love with it. This was my trial prototype you could say. It came out amazing to the point that someone saw it and said they wanted to buy it as is! ๐Ÿ™‚ SOLD…..I know that’s crazy right. Sad part I know the fabric sold out. Hmmmmm….. I will go hunting next time I am at the fabric store in event someone left a piece behind. You never know..

image

Theย whole process in my head transpired well in the cut out stage. Very nerve racking since I was winging it basically but with some key measurements involve to ensure fit, things came together. It’s suppose to be flowy but to proportion of the size. So This size can fit a medium and a large. It may fit a small but a belt may be required to avoid a mooo-moo -licious look ๐Ÿ™‚

I am ready for round two and making the second one. Thereafter I will try to get this baby into a sloper and ready for duplication! Ensuring of course I get the measurements down pat and the shape too. It has an unusual shape which makes it flow a certain way. Hard to explain, I just let the scissors do its thing. ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ Cut cut…

Goal reached, happy camper!

Excited to make one for my own wardrobe. I have a great Rayon print lined up for mine. ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks for stopping by, stay tuned in July I have a few custom pieces in the works that i will share with you.

Just keep sewing, just keep sewing, what do I do I sew, sew, sew, sewwwwwwwwwwww

Combos: Solo or together!

No it’s not fast food!!..

Happy First day of SUMMER!!!!! ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

Fashion can be matched. I know the whole “matchy matchy” thing is not everyone’s cup of tea. But there are some great pieces out there that go together and that can also be worn separately adding that versatility to your wardrobe.

Whether unplanned or requested I have made some combo’s myself in the last bit. I quite enjoyed them and think they are good wardrobe investments. At least have ย one of your favourite silhouettes. Whether its a Maxi skirt look, Palazzo pants look, shorts etc

Here are some pieces I made since the year started and one from last year! Enjoy

St Patrick’s day Combo!- Shorts with Half dress effect ( Crop at the back top)

A graduation affair in New York- Crop top with High waisted Maxi Skirt

Festivities in the island- Wax Print Peplum top and Shorts with pockets

Off to Church on a Sunday!- Tube Top and Pencil Skirt

A Family and Friends Picnic – All white Pant suit

Do you have any favourite combo’s in your closet? I would love to hear about them? If not and you had to choose a combo to add to your closet, what would it be?

It’s the first day of summer, start thinking about adding something different this year to your wardrobe line up!

Happy week ahead!

Just keep sewing, just keep sewing, what do I do I sew, sew ,sew!!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

The Build-A Closet that works!

It’s the last Monday of May and guess what? The final piece on the Style Monday articles is here!

We have covered quite a bit these past Mondays.

I am proud of myself for the consistency in posting. This in itself was a little challenge that inspired me with my blogging. A blogging milestone you can say. ๐Ÿ™‚

It’s only fair to end on a next step look and to bring everything into focus. Not only would you have gained some added tips and maybe even made some decisions about your next closet decision and are ready to create a wardrobe that works for you.

The Build is and should be focused on creating a closet that works for you. Wardrobe pieces that compliment each other and define YOURย unique style.

The word Build signifies a process of some sort. Meaning that all will not happen overnight. It may take you the rest of the year or into 2017 or even more than that. But the goal is that you are and will be making steps towards that new direction of wardrobe happiness and peace. ๐Ÿ™‚

I am still very much in the process of revamping , renewing and adding those pieces into my closet.ย Looking at the silhouettes I love and the pieces that compliment my shape and stature.

Here is an example of a key staple that I can transition with across the season and have incorporated into my closet:The Pencil Skirt. These are perfect with a shirt or blouse, heels, boots, tights, stockings etc. Below shows you some funky prints I have made too.

Now all I need to do is add some other colours and my skirt collection would be complete.. I am thinking.. a plain navy blue, a black and a burgundy…hmmmm

Thanks for tuning in to this little series. It’s really been a pleasure to do this and most of all it allowed me to commit to providing you weekly with a blog post. ( Good practice right..:)). Thanks for your contributions to the posts too.

I have been sewing in between blogs so I have much to share on those too.

See you in June!! Just keep sewing, just keep sewing, what do I do I sew, sew, sew…

Have a blessed and productive week!

Dress Rehearsals: The style test!

It was that serious……

Yes…. dress rehearsals. Trying on my outfits prior to an event. It didn’t matter how small the event was I made sure I did a run through to test for a few things.

  • Fit- Too tight, too big? Bulky, bunching, too long , too short Etc.
  • Function-do I have pockets? Would dancing be a problem? Can I sit?What if I fall?…hmmmmm… would I be embarrassingly exposed?Can I reach up? Can I bend?
  • Style- Did the look make sense for the event? Would it be typical? Do I stand out? Would I run into someone else wearing the same thing?

I know the list sounds a bit extreme. But guys… it worked for me.. And it became so routine that soon after going through those steps was natural as walking and didn’t seem laborious in any way. It became my style process.

Now when I look back I can say.. I was developing that eye of what works for me.

It served its purpose and I am happy to say that I no longer do that so much in detail. But with a quick glance and more so knowing what’s in my closet I put my outfits together easily. ๐Ÿ™‚ You can say the process now takes place in my mind before I even get to the closet!

What’s your get ready process in selecting something to wear? Do you have a mini dress rehearsal? I would love to hear.

Thanks for tuning in to part 2 of my mini Monday style series in May! See you next week!

Just keep sewing, just keep sewing, what do I do I sew sew.

What’s your style?: It exist right?

name-your-style

Join me in this mini series on style over the month 4 Mondays in May starting today. ๐Ÿ™‚

I read this article once by a popular fashion blogger about redefining your wardrobe. In the article she says ” having a lot of clothes does not make you stylish”. ย It’s funny cause for sometime I didn’t think I was as fashionable since in reality I didn’t have a lot of clothes. But then that changed. I had a lot of clothes. But guess what…. I still wasn’t fashionable. *Chuckles* Why I say that .. Lets see, I had a wardrobe full of clothing yet every time I get invited out or have an event I always have to buy something new, not always but most times I am inclined to. Ain’t that a challenge right? It just wasn’t adding up. How can you have clothes but don’t have?ย

When I read that statement from the blogger it brought so much clarity and a push that made me re-evaluate how I defined my style and more so how I build my ideal wardrobe. Tired of the Tornado that swept through the closet look that’s left behind before every event….. you know what I mean!

My notion… it doesn’t matter how many folks you admire and incorporate pieces of their style into your look, in the end I feel you come out with something original that really reflects you. It’s okay to admire, copy, cut and paste. Don’t lose yourself while doing that though.

In the past 7 years of sewing and really pushing the threads, it’s only within the past three years I am beginning to really define my style. There are certain elements that are common to how I select clothing, put them together and how they fit and feel before I make a purchase. It’s that serious. Life is too short to not be comfortable with what you wear. I am sure we all had that stage where we wear clothing to fit in that was not the best for our body in some ways or the other.ย

Dream with me….

What if you could love every stitch of clothing you own? You know, every piece your favourite piece? That’s the kind of wardrobe I would like to have one day. Thats’ right.. every piece having a story, jelling with each other, mix and match, across seasons, fun, function and fit all in my closet.

Sounds like a tall order. But hey… the sky is not the limit. Define your style and then build. One piece at a time.It will take time but once you know what works, you can build from there. The key is knowing and learning what works for YOU. Stop buying clothes to fit in and say you have, when really you and I know they are not working for you. Your clothes should work for you. If it is not working for you ….let it go….*hint hint* It’s time for a spring clean.

What’s your style? Or I should say your wish list?I would love to hear from you?ย Image result for quotes on style

I have a few other great articles in this series on style for the rest of May you don’t want to miss. ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks for stopping by!

Have an amazing week!

St Patricks Flow: A project abroad!

Hi Folks,

March has been a breeze right! But I have some good posts lined up for you so you can see what I have been up to these past weeks. Lets start off with my sewing chronicles abroad!. Yes, you heard right ABROAD!!

This outfit was birthed while on vacation. …. I know I know.. who does that?… I guess I do. ๐Ÿ™‚ What you love have a tendency of following you around. I guess cause really it is apart of you right…:) hmmmm
image

So the story of this outfit came about a week ago while vacationing on the beautiful island of Montserrat in the Caribbean sea. All I really needed was a sewing machine which my Cousin’s wife just so happen to have :). My fellow sewer!

image

Doing some initial alterations the first day of sewing ๐Ÿ™‚

My Aunty was in need of her St Patricks day outfit and had some fabric waiting to be manipulated by yours truly. In no time I got measurements and was self drafting this baby away! Little tools available but I had a vision that needed to become a reality!

Assembling the bodice with the zipper in back

The final product worn on St Patrick’s day! She looked fabulous. I think this just earned itself a spot in the Amshina book of prized projects! ๐Ÿ™‚

Trust you all had a great St Patricks day!

The chronicles of sewing continues… Just keep sewing, just keep sewing.. what do I do I sew, sew…
