It so happens that I am starting out August with 5 gorgeous print Kimonos!! I repeat 5……. I know.. its amazing that in-between all my work in July I was able to work on a few more to add to my Kimono collection for sale. The remaining three will be added to my Etsy shop soon. But for now I think these are a fabulous way to dress this August! These are always in style!!! These were self drafted by yours truly, made with love and not forgetting some awesome prints!

Creativity: Stir, Shake and let go!

Happy Wednesday!

Have you ever shaken a pop and then opened it after?…For fun… You know exactly what will happen. It will erupt like a volcano. Boooooommmmmmmm!!!!……Pop everywhere…

Like the carbonated beverage that is shaken and then released, so is our creativity. It must be stirred , shaken and then have expression in our lives.

Whatever it is today that you are passionate about or are yet to discover, may it find expression in the earth and become a contagious contender!

Stir, shake and let go!!!

Just keep sewing, just keep sewing, what do I do I sew sew sewwwwwwww……

God Bless

Sunny with a Chance of Summer!

Hello there July!!!!!!

Summer=Good weather for a Maxi Dress!!!  🙂 🙂 🙂

I had the draft for this dress sketched out in my notebook since last year I think, or maybe 2014. This was suppose to be *The MAXI*, my gorgeous, flowy, armed with pockets kind of functional summer statement piece.

I never got around to making it last year. But that’s okay cause I did it finally this year!! Found this lightweight floral polyester material to use as a tester. And I am in love with it. This was my trial prototype you could say. It came out amazing to the point that someone saw it and said they wanted to buy it as is! 🙂 SOLD…..I know that’s crazy right. Sad part I know the fabric sold out. Hmmmmm….. I will go hunting next time I am at the fabric store in event someone left a piece behind. You never know..

image

The whole process in my head transpired well in the cut out stage. Very nerve racking since I was winging it basically but with some key measurements involve to ensure fit, things came together. It’s suppose to be flowy but to proportion of the size. So This size can fit a medium and a large. It may fit a small but a belt may be required to avoid a mooo-moo -licious look 🙂

I am ready for round two and making the second one. Thereafter I will try to get this baby into a sloper and ready for duplication! Ensuring of course I get the measurements down pat and the shape too. It has an unusual shape which makes it flow a certain way. Hard to explain, I just let the scissors do its thing. 🙂 🙂 Cut cut…

Goal reached, happy camper!

Excited to make one for my own wardrobe. I have a great Rayon print lined up for mine. 🙂

Thanks for stopping by, stay tuned in July I have a few custom pieces in the works that i will share with you.

Just keep sewing, just keep sewing, what do I do I sew, sew, sew, sewwwwwwwwwwww

OH MY: This T shirt….

The right fabric can make or break the project… 😦

Taking time out to highlight my T shirt draft for my Husband.  He loves a good T shirt. Especially when it doesn’t look like everybody else’s. We worked on this one together :), he provided ideas of how he wanted it and then I got to work..lol

While the print fabric was a perfect knit, the black t shirt material was not the best.. It caused gaping in the neck at the back ( Look closely). This made sewing it up difficult. I had to rip it out :(…which made it worst…ahhh the sewing turmoil..

image

image

I was able to fix it but was not pleased overall. The fabric was too droopy for my liking…..So we agreed it will be a draft and not the real deal as it was the first try. 😦

Some tweaks to be made to the final draft but it looks great.. Fit is perfect.. Still working on the how to do a better neck for the shirts. I should have a few real ones done before summer is out.

For now this one will be a great house shirt 🙂 Especially since we have a long weekend in Canada!!

Have you tried T shirts before? Would love to get any tips on the neckline.

Thanks for stopping by! Have a happy and safe Canada day to all my Canadians!

Until next time. Just keep sewing, just keep sewing, what do I do I sew sew sew sew….

Combos: Solo or together!

No it’s not fast food!!..

Happy First day of SUMMER!!!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂

Fashion can be matched. I know the whole “matchy matchy” thing is not everyone’s cup of tea. But there are some great pieces out there that go together and that can also be worn separately adding that versatility to your wardrobe.

Whether unplanned or requested I have made some combo’s myself in the last bit. I quite enjoyed them and think they are good wardrobe investments. At least have  one of your favourite silhouettes. Whether its a Maxi skirt look, Palazzo pants look, shorts etc

Here are some pieces I made since the year started and one from last year! Enjoy

St Patrick’s day Combo!- Shorts with Half dress effect ( Crop at the back top)

A graduation affair in New York- Crop top with High waisted Maxi Skirt

Festivities in the island- Wax Print Peplum top and Shorts with pockets

Off to Church on a Sunday!- Tube Top and Pencil Skirt

A Family and Friends Picnic – All white Pant suit

Do you have any favourite combo’s in your closet? I would love to hear about them? If not and you had to choose a combo to add to your closet, what would it be?

It’s the first day of summer, start thinking about adding something different this year to your wardrobe line up!

Happy week ahead!

Just keep sewing, just keep sewing, what do I do I sew, sew ,sew!!!! 🙂

I am no Swimmer!

But I wear swim suits! 😉  I think I was genuinely inspired to make this swim suit as my vacation was upcoming. One of those overly ambitious sewing moments if you know what I mean. Once again pushing the envelope of sewing by literally “threading”the unknown borders of sewing. However the chosen pattern and I did not see eye to eye. Let’s just say it wasn’t as straight forward as it looks or I couldn’t interpret the “simple instructions” That was very frustrating I must say and I was discouraged to complete this for a moment.

Suit 1

Not sure whether a step was missed or I cut it incorrectly, but something was not working out with the upper bodice. Either way in the end I ended up ditching the instructions and finishing this piece on my own. My way. The wing it way! Of course I wing it within reason of the fit, fashion and the form in which the suit will be worn. It worked well and I was able to salvage the suit despite the unevenness of one strap and the unpadded cups…. i tried guys I really did..

I didn’t get to wear it on vacation this time round but I am planning on it. I felt very proud of taking this risk in the end. It was worth it. It pretty much influenced me to take step two and try at my own drafted pattern for a swim suit.

Suit 2

Self drafted and inspired by creating a full covered boho printed boy shorts and tankini style swim suit that provided, style, function and fit in one.

One that a woman would be comfortable wearing and still feel confident. A simple two piece meant to look like a 70s jumper. I made these as a tester for my cousin. I think we can all agree the pictures share the sentiments that she loved it. And I equally loved it too! I would definitely make one of these again. Perfect the pattern by addressing a few tweaks here and there.Overall I felt much happier trying to work out the kinks of this than my previous suit…. I will retry them both.. soon. Summer is not that far away… 🙂

Wishing you all a Sew-rific week….just keep sewing, just keep sewing.. what do I do I sew sew sew sew….

The Build-A Closet that works!

It’s the last Monday of May and guess what? The final piece on the Style Monday articles is here!

We have covered quite a bit these past Mondays.

I am proud of myself for the consistency in posting. This in itself was a little challenge that inspired me with my blogging. A blogging milestone you can say. 🙂

It’s only fair to end on a next step look and to bring everything into focus. Not only would you have gained some added tips and maybe even made some decisions about your next closet decision and are ready to create a wardrobe that works for you.

The Build is and should be focused on creating a closet that works for you. Wardrobe pieces that compliment each other and define YOUR unique style.

The word Build signifies a process of some sort. Meaning that all will not happen overnight. It may take you the rest of the year or into 2017 or even more than that. But the goal is that you are and will be making steps towards that new direction of wardrobe happiness and peace. 🙂

I am still very much in the process of revamping , renewing and adding those pieces into my closet. Looking at the silhouettes I love and the pieces that compliment my shape and stature.

Here is an example of a key staple that I can transition with across the season and have incorporated into my closet:The Pencil Skirt. These are perfect with a shirt or blouse, heels, boots, tights, stockings etc. Below shows you some funky prints I have made too.

Now all I need to do is add some other colours and my skirt collection would be complete.. I am thinking.. a plain navy blue, a black and a burgundy…hmmmm

Thanks for tuning in to this little series. It’s really been a pleasure to do this and most of all it allowed me to commit to providing you weekly with a blog post. ( Good practice right..:)). Thanks for your contributions to the posts too.

I have been sewing in between blogs so I have much to share on those too.

See you in June!! Just keep sewing, just keep sewing, what do I do I sew, sew, sew…

Have a blessed and productive week!
