Thinking Spring thoughts… and Sewing..!

Hi Everyone!

Belated Easter greetings. I Trust you all had an amazing time with your family or however you chose to spend it. 🙂

It’s been a world wind of activities as usual. 🙂 A little sewing there, a little sewing here, a little reading here, a lot of grad school assignments there, a little of family here and life all together there.. lol.. You guys get the wave of events. 🙂

It’s a new season though! This causes me to reflect on the way forward and where I am at. Spring brings that happy and joyful feeling  about sunshine and flowers but also possibilities. Like the budding of the trees and roses, I am feeling the possibilities. Grad school has been crazy these past months. Assignments after assignments. I sewed in between.. but not as much or how I wanted to. 😦

I finally got a chance to do some creative sewing! Yayyy!!!! I was sewing in between… so it wasn’t complete withdrawal.hahaha. You know me, I make it happen! I am more referring to the creative moments where I can be present mentally and enjoy the process of sewing and creating a beautiful piece. So over Easter I did three pieces on Good Friday! I had my own self drafted patterns already and just had a creative moment.
I thoroughly enjoyed the process but also the finished looks.

The chronicles continue… just keep sewing, just keep sewing, what do I do I sew, sew, sewwwwwwwww!!!

Sunny with a Chance of Summer!

Hello there July!!!!!!

Summer=Good weather for a Maxi Dress!!!  🙂 🙂 🙂

I had the draft for this dress sketched out in my notebook since last year I think, or maybe 2014. This was suppose to be *The MAXI*, my gorgeous, flowy, armed with pockets kind of functional summer statement piece.

I never got around to making it last year. But that’s okay cause I did it finally this year!! Found this lightweight floral polyester material to use as a tester. And I am in love with it. This was my trial prototype you could say. It came out amazing to the point that someone saw it and said they wanted to buy it as is! 🙂 SOLD…..I know that’s crazy right. Sad part I know the fabric sold out. Hmmmmm….. I will go hunting next time I am at the fabric store in event someone left a piece behind. You never know..

image

The whole process in my head transpired well in the cut out stage. Very nerve racking since I was winging it basically but with some key measurements involve to ensure fit, things came together. It’s suppose to be flowy but to proportion of the size. So This size can fit a medium and a large. It may fit a small but a belt may be required to avoid a mooo-moo -licious look 🙂

I am ready for round two and making the second one. Thereafter I will try to get this baby into a sloper and ready for duplication! Ensuring of course I get the measurements down pat and the shape too. It has an unusual shape which makes it flow a certain way. Hard to explain, I just let the scissors do its thing. 🙂 🙂 Cut cut…

Goal reached, happy camper!

Excited to make one for my own wardrobe. I have a great Rayon print lined up for mine. 🙂

Thanks for stopping by, stay tuned in July I have a few custom pieces in the works that i will share with you.

Just keep sewing, just keep sewing, what do I do I sew, sew, sew, sewwwwwwwwwwww

I am Amshina!

January 2016 ended on an awesome note for my sewing! I really enjoyed making this piece. Remember one of my goals for 2016 is to showcase more of my pieces by wearing them! This was truly one of those moments where I got to shine. I tried two new patterns and they both worked!  These patterns were self drafted and inspired by an online class I completed and a tutorial on inserting the clutch zipper.

As the title of the post says  ” I am Amshina” My line is truly a reflection of me and my relationship with my wardrobe and the clothing that makes it up. I know this year I will create the wardrobe that I truly desire to have and the clothes that I am proud to wear.

The dress- Self Drafted Pattern from completing an online course working with Stretch knit! 🙂  I used a stretch knit fabric piece I had bought a while back ( From the stash..lol). Simply cut my pattern and drafted two pockets along with the oversized hem.  Serge it all together and Tadah! A dress that showcases fun, function, fashion and fit! 🙂 This took me just under an hour, no joke.. An hour if you mention the ironing! Sewing for myself is very very quick..lol  Always in a rush..lol ( I know I know.. I will make more time to sew for me..)

The clutch purse

So I wouldn’t say this was my first rodeo with a purse. A few years back I actually made a laptop tote bag for a friend and she totally loved it. It was the first and last bag I did at the time. Then along came this  red number. Inspired by a tutorial I watched and dare to try. Well I took my time, work out the details around the zipper and tadah, We have a clutch folks. Love it.. One of my favourite pieces too for January. I plan to perfect these and add a few to my line so watch out accessory fans. A good customize clutch is an added bonus to that functional wardrobe you seek.

Purse and Dress Unite! 🙂 What a power combo. The vision was clear, I just stepped into action and  put my hands to the plough.

Thank you all for your continued support. Happy Sewing February, I am already off to a great start of trying new things. 🙂 Watch out for my next post!

Just keep sewing, just keep sewing.. what do I do I sew sew….

Fall Winter Sewing: A little something for moi!

So this was really not the plan last evening. The goal was to go to the fabric store ( which I did), source some fabric based on some generated interest this week in a particular piece, take some pictures, head back home and work on finishing  another cardigan.

Hmmmmmmm… lets see when did it all changed.. ooh yeah… in the fabric store…lol

I saw the remnant of this fabric and had a visual of perhaps a peplum. Such an unsual print and the feel and sturdyness of the knit was just great. However when I got to the cutting table I realized that it was not going to work for a peplum that is. So I didn’t want to walk away from the piece. It is quiet and unusual print you would agree and it was on sale too…… Go figure i bought it ( A potential new member of my stash). It was less than a meter but in my head I was sure I can come up with something to do with it.

Got home and guess where I headed…. you guessed right.. the machine.. set up my thread and next few minutes I was on the floor cutting away.. Good thing was  I had a mini plan. A few weeks ago I completed an online course in designing patterns for Stretch knit fabrics through Burda Academy.. I had made most of the slopers that was done as part of the  course. The different design variations too. These slopers were all made tailored to my measurements. So eager to try out the dress sloper I made it was an easy cut for this fabric.

image

Used sloper to cut dress, added extra piece for length!

An hour and a half later Tadah!!!!!!!! Just like that a new member of my wardrobe!
image

Love how it turned out.. Had to rip the neck out and add it again because it was attached wrong…oops late night sewing.. some serger woes was included in this project but I continued. Once I tried it on I was able to hem bottom and finish the armholes.

image

Disregard the beautiful mess in the background.. I am working on it.. 😉 Focus on the dress…hahahah

Now back to regular programming… finishing up my holiday orders and working on new stuff.. Stop by tomorrow I have a SPECIAL PROMO running for one day only!! 🙂

The Maternity Project!! : The sewing chronicles never stopped!

While the past month has been crazy, don’t be fooled my friends I have been busy at the sewing machine. The throws of life cannot be too much to take me away from my sewing machine. Seriously….I have the fruits of the absence in items sewed 🙂  I will share with you all over the next week. 🙂 Stay tuned.

I do apologize to my followers, friends and family for not posting as often as I would like. I really really really appreciate your continued support here on WordPress. And I will not relent but continue.

I wanted to start by sharing a special post. And the story behind it. 🙂 The maternity project!!!!!!

A friend approached me asking about making a birthing gown. I had never heard of the term before…seriously.. I didn’t know such a thing exists.

Eager and excited to deliver  the item I made a prototype. The deep purple and grey was the prototype made. She tried it and it fit perfectly. I loved how it turned out. Mimicking the hospital styled gown of the open back and jazzing it up with a ribbon and snaps for easy breast feeding, the gown in my head was an instant hit with me.

I was really impressed with the turn out and the fit. It fitted her just as the mannequin…..in fact…better..:) Since she had the real baby bump.

Once she was fitted with the prototype. I had two weeks to get the piece done. Got a great chevron print cotton in her favourite purple to add some jazz to the look.  She loved the print.

There were some glitches in completing the gown. I bought the wrong bias tape…ooh nooooo…. so stuck and disappointed that evening as I wrapped up. With no time to get the new tape I was ready to tell my friend I don’t think I would have it done for the week before her delivery. After thinking about it for a moment I figure there had to be a way to salvage this and complete it in time for delivery. It was as if I really wanted to deliver the gown in advance.

So there I was late the night before the day I would take it to her. 12 midnight, tired and weary eyed It was completed……Yesssssss…..So proud I thought I would take a few pics to share with her the next day.

IMG_5037 IMG_5045 IMG_5048 IMG_5051 IMG_5046 IMG_5071

I shared the pics with her first thing the next day……only to find out that while I worked on the dress the night before, she delivered her gorgeous baby girl!!!! awwwwwhhhhhhhh.. Congratulations my friend.. 🙂 Early delivery. I believed she still had another 6 days to the initial delivery date. Crazyyyyyyyyyyy!!!

It was a great experience for me making this. While she didn’t get to wear it for her delivery, I hope to deliver it to her to wear around the house at least. 🙂 Also I have another great project under my belt!Happy sewer moment!

🙂 The joy of sewing……

Just keep sewing, just keep sewing, what do I do I sew sew sewwwwwww!!!

God bless

Escaping Winter at the Sewing Machine: The Cotton Maxi Dress!

Hello All,

It’s been a few days since my last posts, but just a few minutes since my last sewing project. 🙂  Been busy , aren’t we all! I am not alone. But sewing continues. 🙂

As a sewing enthusiast I can totally escape the current winter blues at my sewing machine. Just one piece it takes. Here she is. My first summer dress. Yes, I said the word Summer and we are experiencing -20 Degrees weather here in Toronto. 🙂

It was a mock up I made a few weeks back while making a dress for a friend. I took my time with it as I really wanted it to be wearable in the end. It worked, so I am keeping her.

This cotton piece will be perfect for the summer weather. It can also be paired with a denim jacket too and different fun belts! It carries a pocket on each side making it a functional piece for me.

How have you been escaping with sewing this winter? Are you anticipating Summer/Spring pieces already? Or are you  still buying more sweater dresses for winter? Whatever you are doing I encourage you to not get the winter blues. Dig into your cloth stash and  find something colourful, bold and spring/summer looking and escape!

Just keep sewing, just keep sewing, what do we do we seeeeeeewwwwwwwwwww….until next time…

Much love
