The Build-A Closet that works!

It’s the last Monday of May and guess what? The final piece on the Style Monday articles is here!

We have covered quite a bit these past Mondays.

I am proud of myself for the consistency in posting. This in itself was a little challenge that inspired me with my blogging. A blogging milestone you can say. 🙂

It’s only fair to end on a next step look and to bring everything into focus. Not only would you have gained some added tips and maybe even made some decisions about your next closet decision and are ready to create a wardrobe that works for you.

The Build is and should be focused on creating a closet that works for you. Wardrobe pieces that compliment each other and define YOUR unique style.

The word Build signifies a process of some sort. Meaning that all will not happen overnight. It may take you the rest of the year or into 2017 or even more than that. But the goal is that you are and will be making steps towards that new direction of wardrobe happiness and peace. 🙂

I am still very much in the process of revamping , renewing and adding those pieces into my closet. Looking at the silhouettes I love and the pieces that compliment my shape and stature.

Here is an example of a key staple that I can transition with across the season and have incorporated into my closet:The Pencil Skirt. These are perfect with a shirt or blouse, heels, boots, tights, stockings etc. Below shows you some funky prints I have made too.

Now all I need to do is add some other colours and my skirt collection would be complete.. I am thinking.. a plain navy blue, a black and a burgundy…hmmmm

Thanks for tuning in to this little series. It’s really been a pleasure to do this and most of all it allowed me to commit to providing you weekly with a blog post. ( Good practice right..:)). Thanks for your contributions to the posts too.

I have been sewing in between blogs so I have much to share on those too.

See you in June!! Just keep sewing, just keep sewing, what do I do I sew, sew, sew…

Have a blessed and productive week!

What’s In Your Closet?

You know I was going to ask this eventually..

I mean after talking about style and all that stuff and giving you all the crazy tactics I have done and  currently working out we just have to talk about what is in your closet?

Do you know?

I mean do you really know those pieces? Should they be there? Are there pieces you need but haven’t stepped out and bought?

It’s still spring this part of the world.. Lets get some spring cleaning done? Join me. It’s inventory time.

Let me know what you decide? Would love to hear? If you have done your wardrobe cleanse, do share?

Until next time 🙂

Dress Rehearsals: The style test!

It was that serious……

Yes…. dress rehearsals. Trying on my outfits prior to an event. It didn’t matter how small the event was I made sure I did a run through to test for a few things.

  • Fit- Too tight, too big? Bulky, bunching, too long , too short Etc.
  • Function-do I have pockets? Would dancing be a problem? Can I sit?What if I fall?…hmmmmm… would I be embarrassingly exposed?Can I reach up? Can I bend?
  • Style- Did the look make sense for the event? Would it be typical? Do I stand out? Would I run into someone else wearing the same thing?

I know the list sounds a bit extreme. But guys… it worked for me.. And it became so routine that soon after going through those steps was natural as walking and didn’t seem laborious in any way. It became my style process.

Now when I look back I can say.. I was developing that eye of what works for me.

It served its purpose and I am happy to say that I no longer do that so much in detail. But with a quick glance and more so knowing what’s in my closet I put my outfits together easily. 🙂 You can say the process now takes place in my mind before I even get to the closet!

What’s your get ready process in selecting something to wear? Do you have a mini dress rehearsal? I would love to hear.

Thanks for tuning in to part 2 of my mini Monday style series in May! See you next week!

Just keep sewing, just keep sewing, what do I do I sew sew.

Bless

What’s your style?: It exist right?

name-your-style

Join me in this mini series on style over the month 4 Mondays in May starting today. 🙂

I read this article once by a popular fashion blogger about redefining your wardrobe. In the article she says ” having a lot of clothes does not make you stylish”.  It’s funny cause for sometime I didn’t think I was as fashionable since in reality I didn’t have a lot of clothes. But then that changed. I had a lot of clothes. But guess what…. I still wasn’t fashionable. *Chuckles* Why I say that .. Lets see, I had a wardrobe full of clothing yet every time I get invited out or have an event I always have to buy something new, not always but most times I am inclined to. Ain’t that a challenge right? It just wasn’t adding up. How can you have clothes but don’t have?

When I read that statement from the blogger it brought so much clarity and a push that made me re-evaluate how I defined my style and more so how I build my ideal wardrobe. Tired of the Tornado that swept through the closet look that’s left behind before every event….. you know what I mean!

My notion… it doesn’t matter how many folks you admire and incorporate pieces of their style into your look, in the end I feel you come out with something original that really reflects you. It’s okay to admire, copy, cut and paste. Don’t lose yourself while doing that though.

In the past 7 years of sewing and really pushing the threads, it’s only within the past three years I am beginning to really define my style. There are certain elements that are common to how I select clothing, put them together and how they fit and feel before I make a purchase. It’s that serious. Life is too short to not be comfortable with what you wear. I am sure we all had that stage where we wear clothing to fit in that was not the best for our body in some ways or the other.

Dream with me….

What if you could love every stitch of clothing you own? You know, every piece your favourite piece? That’s the kind of wardrobe I would like to have one day. Thats’ right.. every piece having a story, jelling with each other, mix and match, across seasons, fun, function and fit all in my closet.

Sounds like a tall order. But hey… the sky is not the limit. Define your style and then build. One piece at a time.It will take time but once you know what works, you can build from there. The key is knowing and learning what works for YOU. Stop buying clothes to fit in and say you have, when really you and I know they are not working for you. Your clothes should work for you. If it is not working for you ….let it go….*hint hint* It’s time for a spring clean.

What’s your style? Or I should say your wish list?I would love to hear from you? Image result for quotes on style

I have a few other great articles in this series on style for the rest of May you don’t want to miss. 🙂

Thanks for stopping by!

Have an amazing week!

Repeat: Try again?

image

It wasn’t long after I started tapping into my creative skills that I realized that those decisions I made in my sewing can also affect how I do life in general. Extremely happy when I accomplished something new or finished a piece as well as disappointment and self doubt when I am challenged by a project.

Scary!!!!! I know that sounds deep and pretty extreme right?

I mean what does ripping a project out has to do with making a budget, running a business, buying a new car or even planning a vacation getaway?

Alot! If you are passionate about what you do. The creativity is really an extension of who you are.  If you don’t get me think of when you stub your big toe….. ouchhhhhhh….. the shock waves you feel through your entire body is enough to let you know something is wrong. Choosing to finish or not finish that project that is challenging you can affect your next move.

My notion… the more situations that challenges me to be better that I give up on in my life will give me just about enough excuses I need to convince myself that quitting is okay.

Try again!

Trying again is very much acquainted with the person that will dare to believe, dare to go higher, dare to grow, dare to push pass the mess and see what the other end of reaching that goal or see the end results of  the final project.

Food for Thought as we start a new month of unlimited possibilities!! Happy May!

Just keep sewing… I intend to…. 🙂
